Now that Halloween is done it’s a real struggle to slow down, remind myself to appreciate the small precious moments of each day, because the holiday snowball effect kicks in and everything accelerates into the New Year. Okay, so here are some random fall/winter images to balance the hectic rush:
Wearing a scarf and feeling the bracing air on your cheeks while your neck stays warm…Hot cocoa, shared with a friend…Watching kids get excited as Christmas gets closer…Holiday lights, even the really tacky ones…Yams, mashed potatoes, stuffing, gravy. Carbs, carbs, carbs. Bring it on!
Now back to the rush: My big show of course is the 6th Annual Festivus Celebration which will be Dec 17. This is a variety show mixing jazz, blues, R&B, Latin, Bollywood and more. It’s a lot of work to prepare, but a lot of fun. We raise money for Austin Children’s Shelter, celebrate our Austin community, and give folks a breather from the commercialism and hypocrisy of the Christmas season. Advance tickets can be had by making a donation to our GoFundMe Campaign: www.GoFundMe.com/PKFestivus
(the more you donate, the more percs you get: CDs, T-shirts & other cool stuff!).
Meanwhile all my other projects proceed apace. The weekly Skylark Lounge Jazz shows are going well. The Skylark has added regular happy hour shows to the schedule, so my evening show is now 8:30-11:30pm.
I am starting to present public events (performances, workshops, salon discussions) around the theme of Value In Aging. This is a natural development from growing older, and dealing with issues of aging. The underlying theme is that we grow in value as we age, even though our culture seems to believe the opposite. Look for more on this topic soon, at www.valueinaging.com.
Onward, ever onward!
