The Y2K hoopla is over and we are all hopefully back to business as usual or, as in my case and that of many of my friends, the pitiful flailings toward some ambiguous future reward. Some of us had incredible millenials. I know at least a couple musicians who were working on their tans on the island of Curacao, but for most of us it was just another New Year’s Eve gig. Mine was with the Seth Walker Band in Dallas. We had a fine old time playing Auld Lang Syne ad nauseum and kissing Dallas gals (I think it was a Dallas gal I was kissing; whatever it was had big hair).

I didn’t make resolutions so much as a laundry list of things to get done in the year 2000. At the top of the list is, of course, laundry. In addition to that, I have already managed to get used to writing “00″ as the year. I have also revamped my web page which, if you’re reading this, you know is now “http://pksax.rockin.com.” I’m also doing more writing. You can find some of it at a cynically counter-cultural site called http://www.paralegalator.com. Look for the big expose on the pokemon phenomenon.

The new Seth Walker Band CD should be out by the end of January. For more details check out Seth’s site: http://www.sethwalker.com. Also I appear on the new Golden Arm Trio CD, for which there will be a CD release party on Jan. 22 at the Ritz Upstairs (on 6th street). Unfortunately I won’t be there, but for a good reason: I’ll be playing with Marcia Ball up in Chicago for the wekend. It should be a fun reunion. In other CD news, Rob Halverson is having his CD release party on Jan. 18 at the Cactus Cafe (UT Student Union). I appear on the CD and will be playing a few songs with him that night.

In February, Graham Reynolds of the Golden Arm Trio is unveiling his 40-piece symphony. I’ll be somewhere in the herd, playing clarinet. The premiere is Feb. 12, 8pm, at the Scottish Rite Theater on Lavaca at 18th street. Bring your monocles and opera glasses.,

What else? If you haven’t already read my dear friend Spike Gillespie’s searing new book (”All The Wrong Men And One Perfect Boy”), go out and do so. She is one of the more prolofic writers I know. You can also catch her work in the Dallas Morning News, or check out her website.

The weather continues to be beautiful down here in Austin (50s at night, 70s by day), but of course the downside is the billions of particles of cedar pollen flying up my nose. But ladies, take note: my bloodshot eyes, runny nose, and hacking cough don’t make me less attractive; they just add to my mystique!
