As part of my musical journey I enjoy playing with musicians from many different traditions and in many places around the world. I feel fortunate that there are so many opportunities right here in Austin to hear and play world music. My bands Manteca Beat and My Exotic Other explore world music as part of our musical philosophy, and I am adding a new twist to some of my public shows: slideshow presentations of my travels to other regions in the U.S. and other countries, accompanied by live music from those places.
My music collaborations include the group Sangeet Millennium, which explores Indian and Jazz fusions, and Ivory Ghost, which features Afro-Beat sounds. In addition there are a couple new resources in Austin, which I am excited to be part of: Wobeon.com, a world music umbrella website (World Beat Online); and a great new Latin Jazz Jam which happens every Tuesday at Jax (29th & Guadalupe), 8:00-11:00pm.
